FAQs

  • Somatic healing is a holistic approach to address emotional and physical distress by recognizing the mind-body-spirit connection. It acknowledges that trauma and negative experiences are stored in the body if not appropriately acknowledged and addressed.

Through techniques like mindful awareness, movement, and meditation, somatic healing aims to release stored tension and trauma, promoting self-awareness and resilience. This integrative process empowers individuals to engage with their bodies alongside their minds to alleviate stress, enhance emotional well-being, and foster a sense of balance and inner harmony.

  • The Somatic and Attachment Focused (S.A.F.E.) EMDR approach from PTI is a special way of helping people who have experienced distressing experiences or chronic disruption of connection. This method recognizes how it impacts a person's ability to calm their nervous system and connect with others, which is crucial during EMDR therapy.

By using simple techniques focused on attachment (how we bond with others) and body-based methods, this training helps therapists better understand trauma. This deeper understanding allows therapists to create personalized strategies that meet each client's specific needs. The approach particularly addresses feelings of safety and the ability to form relationships, which are often challenging for those who have gone through complex trauma.

Our collaborative work can be a wonderful place for reflection, resource and insight building.

If there is a technological failure we will first attempt to re-establish a connection. After 5 minutes you can presume that the connection cannot be re-established, and we will contact you by phone.

    1. Check your out-of-network benefits: These are typically in the Summary of Benefits that is included in a member information packet or on your insurance company website

    2. Call your insurance company to verify: The best way to be absolutely sure of your benefits is to call your insurance company member services line and ask:

    • What is my out-of-network deductible for outpatient mental health?

    • How much of my deductible has been met this year?

    • What is my out-of-network coinsurance for outpatient mental health?

    • Do I need a referral from an in-network provider to see someone out-of-network?

    • How do I submit claim forms for reimbursement?

  • "Does my plan include out-of-network benefits for mental health care? Specifically, for outpatient psychotherapy?"

"Do I have a deductible for out-of-network mental health services? If yes, what is the remaining amount I will have to pay before my health plan starts to reimburse me for fees that I pay out-of-pocket?"

"What is the maximum amount my plan will reimburse for mental health service code 90837 with a Psychotherapist?"

If the rep does not provide a clear answer, ask: "What is the maximum allowed amount for mental health service code 90837 with a psychotherapist, and what percentage of the maximum allowed amount will my plan pay?"

(This percentage of the maximum allowed amount is the amount you would receive as reimbursement.)

  • That is totally normal and expected! I recognize seeking therapy and professional support can be intimidating. I invite you to bring all of your identities and parts to our meetings where we can honor and explore them at your pace.

  • As your coach, I would not conduct therapy services which include assessing, diagnosing, and treating mental health symptoms. Coaching focuses on future-oriented goal setting and skill development, helping individuals enhance performance and achieve specific objectives. Therapy, on the other hand, addresses emotional well-being by exploring past experiences, emotions, and mental health concerns to promote healing and personal growth. However, I will help you find an appropriate referral if mental health counseling is a more appropriate fit. Your voice and needs continue to be a priority as we collaborate to help you achieve your goals.

  • We recommend booking a 30-minute discovery call with either Mao or Hee-Eun for a discovery call to discuss your needs and how we can be a support to you. You can book here with Mao and here with Hee-Eun.

  • Yes. I am in-network with a few insurance panels through partnership with Headway but I do not have any insurance slots available. Working with them has made the process more accessible and sustainable for myself and the clients. Please note that insurance companies do mandate a diagnosis, may oversee your health records, and seek access to your information while in therapy. They also may limit your coverage to a set number of therapy sessions per year. If this does not align with you, private pay is a better option. Sliding scale is available.

  • Sessions are required to be canceled no less than 24 hours from the scheduled session to avoid the full fee charge.
